Kohima
Kohima, the capital town of Nagaland in the north

Zoological Park
The zoo at Kohima is built on a lovely hill-slope. You will find
a glimpse of the animal and bird kingdom of Nagaland in the Zoological
Park at Kohima. You can see some rare species of animals and birds
especially the rare golden langurs, Blythe's Tragopan.
The Catholic Cathedral
The Catholic Cathedral at Aradura Hill is a major landmark at
Kohima. It is one of the biggest Cathedral in the whole North
East and has a very amiable atmosphere for praying. This place
is worth a visit, for its blend of endemic
architecture.
Kohima Village (Bara Basti)
Naga legend has it that, this is the second largest and the most
populous village in Asia. The Big Village is a reminder of the
grandeur of the Angami ancestors, who built it. At the entrance
of the village you will find a large traditional wooden gate,
elaborately carved with warriors and weapons and the skull of
the mithun, a symbol of prosperity. Naga stones raised here and
there in front of the houses are memorial symbols of the grand
feasts organised by their great ancestors.
Museum
The State Museum treasures rare collection of articles of different
tribes which speak about the history and traditions of the Nagas.
The Market
Grocery shopping in Kohima is a treat; visit the wholesale market
for the a visual feast of the Naga village women wearing their
splendid tribal costumes and gathering to sell farm, field, forest
and stream products.
Some Important Destination near Kohima, Nagaland
The capital town of Kohima is at a distance of 339 km from Guwahati
(Assam), 145 km from Imphal (capital of Manipur) and 74 km from
Dimapur. The National Highway 39 connects it to both Dimapur and
Imphal.
Getting There
By Airport : The nearest airport is at Dimapur. Indian Airlines
operates Boeing services from both Calcutta and Delhi every alternate
day. Guwahati and Imphal are also connected to Dimapur by air.
By Rail : The nearest railhead too is Dimapur,
and the Northeast Frontier Railway runs a number of trains from
Dimapur to Guwahati. Guwahati is in turn well connected to the
rest of the country.
By Road : Nagaland State Transport runs buses
from Dimapur to Kohima and the journey takes around 4 hours. From
Guwahati, one can find a number of luxury private buses. Taxis
and mini-coaches are also available, albeit at slightly exorbitant
rates, from Dimapur.

Kohima offers very few choices as far as lodges are concerned.
A few good private hotels and the Tourist Lodge are the few places
to stay.

Best time to Travel : Through out the year, though best is between
November to March.
Location : Situated in the southwest part of

at an altitude of 1500 meters above sea level.
Weather Conditions : The summers are tropical,
winters are dry and bitterly cold. Kohima experiences around 250
cm of annual rainfall.
